LOVE - probably one of the most misunderstood, misused and abused words in the world. God is love and Jesus came to exemplify that, He showed us what is love and how to love the way God meant it to be. In Matthew 22:37-40, the Lord defines love as the greatest of all commandments, He said, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

The theme of love is found throughout scripture, showing the passion of our loving Creator toward us, His prized creation, making known His desire for us to be in a loving and intimate relationship with Him. In places like John 14-17, the Lord reiterates the mutual love between Him and the Father and the love they have for the disciples (including us) and how it would be reciprocated through obedience out of love for God.

Beloved, our faith is not a set of rules or law to be followed legalistically or religiously, yes, they are there to tell us what to do or not to do and that’s about it. God’s law in itself is good and perfect but it does not provide the means of enabling us to obey them and it certainly cannot save us as that is not its purpose.

Salvation and Righteousness comes only by the Grace of God through Faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own works or efforts to keep God’s law. It is also the Grace and Love of God that we are enabled by His Holy Spirit to walk with Him and have a relationship with Him. Our purpose in life is to live out the book that He has written for each of us here on earth as it is in heaven, and also to know Him; to grow to be like Him; to make Him known to others through our lives transformed by His Love, Truth and Holy Spirit!
